What is richmond Pit Bull Awareness Day?
Misunderstood Pit Bull Rescue is a local non-profit, educational organization created to foster, train, and adopt out Ambassadors of the breed. We represent the “Misunderstood Pit Bull” and educate potential Pit Bull owners and the community about the truths and myths of the breed. This October, we will host Pit Bull Awareness Day, an event geared toward bringing awareness in a multitude of facets about the breed nationwide. We
invite you to become a sponsor of the Inaugural Pit Bull Awareness Day & Bully Walk, Walk-a-Thon.The one-mile walk will be held
Saturday, October 18th, 2008 in Richmond, VA. The goal for the walk is to raise awareness about the breed, the dangers of community dog fighting, and to celebrate responsible dog ownership. Our community has personally been touched with the recent exposure of Michael Vick’s dog fighting ring. As dog fighting is a growing problem within our community, our efforts are crucial. It is estimated that Virginia taxpayers paid nearly $500,000 towards a bill to house dog fighting victims in 2007. The criminal act of dog fighting affects our families, our insurance, our taxes, and our communities.Numerous law enforcement raids have unearthed many disturbing facets of this illegal "sport." Gangs, gambling, weapons, violence, drugs, and even homicide are associated with dog fighting. Young children are sometimes present at these events, which promote insensitivity to animal suffering, enthusiasm for violence, and a lack of respect for the law, and will contribute to the future of dog fighting.
Pit Bulls are not the problem. Bad Owners are the problem. And we are the solution....
